Information provided by the Federal Department of Finance (Canada) indicates that Garage Doors should be eligible for the recently introduced 2009 Renovation Tax Credit.

Eligible period of renovation goes from January 27, 2009 to February 1, 2010. Any renovation expenditure over $1,000 up to a maximum of $10,000 is eligible. The tax credit goes for 15% on amounts exceeding $1,000 (Maximum : $1,350) Some conditions applies : Home must be owner occupied and cottages are eligible.

Note that the original intentions of the program have to be respected. The tax credit is intended for renovation (not replacement), for a long-lasting modification.

Note also that some provincial government have also introduced a provincial tax credit that may apply over the federal tax credit. Contact your Provincial Government to see if they offer a tax Credit for Home Renovations.
